Wildhearts Forest School

Our woodland and surrounding area with a wildlife pond and veg growing beds is a fantastic place to connect with nature and ourselves, a calming environment, free from the stresses of everyday life, something that young people need just as much as the grown-ups!

Forest School focuses on SPICES - Social, Physical, Intellectual, Creative, Emotional and Spiritual development. We provide opportunities for children to develop resilience, risk taking, resourcefulness and build relationships whilst learning a wide range of new skills..

A typical day might see us building dens, digging trenches, making fires, whittling sticks to toast marshmallows, playing hide and seek, bug hunting and crafting with natural materials.

The children generally leave us with muddy clothes, leaves in their hair, and enormous grins on their faces - bubbling with excitement about all they have been doing.

The sessions run every Wednesday and are aimed at 6-11 years old, living in Bulwell.

Saplings Club

Our Saplings are aged between 10-15 and meet up every Saturday to volunteer in all sorts of different ways…

No one knows what kids like better than kids themselves! Our Saplings help create and deliver nature themed activities at our Grow, Cook and Play family sessions.

Several Saplings graduated from our Wildhearts Forest School, and have a good understanding of the Community Garden and its bio-diversity. For others, its all new, and you can find our Saplings helping out with gardening and conservation tasks.

As well as all this, the Saplings have developed their own Young People’s Management Committee, raising funds and making decisions, giving local young people a voice in the over all development of Bulwell Forest Garden. So far, they have funded their own hoodies with logos, new hammocks and garden games.

Amazing work guys, we’re very proud!!

The sessions run every Saturday 11am-4pm

Email saplings@bulwellforestgarden.co.uk to find out more.
